Without Words
Without Words is a mixed media painting, created intuitively using acrylic paint, charcoal and sand. 91cm x61cm x 3.5cm
For me, a painting has to flow from a deep seated memory of a place, but more than that, the emotion and connection that the environment created. I become aware of a great calm when I am outside, maybe high up on a hill, near a river or when I am lucky enough to be by the coast. Do you feel it too? The wind, the smell of the air and the feeling of calm, it’s like taking a big sigh.
Without Words has a rawness of expressionism and also a sense of an ambiguous landscape. It is a metaphysical artwork that resonates with those who seek meaning beyond words, inviting contemplation and serenity.
The natural elements of charcoal and quartz sand are combined and fixed within the permanent bond of acrylic paint, to create a textured and durable surface. Extra layers of satin UV varnish have been added to ensure a lasting finish. The edges are painted neatly in a crisp white.

My art has been inspired by many artists but notably, J.M.W. Turner’s late works, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and Gerhard Richter.
